Who's behind it
Engage Your Community, being held on Thursday 4 Septemeber at Massey University, Wellington, is brought to you by Wellington ICT (website link), a not-for-profit Trust with a primary interest in providing ICT programmes and projects for community groups in the Wellington region.
Projects we have undertaken include Whanau Link (wireless-based laptops for patients in hospices), e-Rider (IT advice and support for community groups), Timberlea (ICT 'hub' for the Timberlea community in Upper Hutt), and Secret Level ('hub' for the youth centre in Lower Hutt). Details about our projects can viewed on our website.
We also operate the Wellington Community Net (WCN) on behalf of the Wellington City Council, WCN's primary sponsor.
Wellington ICT wishes to acknowledge the assistance with planning and organising form the following organisations:
FirstBite
Miraz Jordan from FirstBite is a Wellington-based writer with a special interest in connection technology, where it's going, and how it affects regular folks and community groups. Miraz is the driving force behind the NZ Webguide, has a keen interest in useful Internet (web) technologies, and is one of the authors of the WordPress 2 Visual QuickStart Guide.
The NZ Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations
As a national umbrella organisation, The NZ Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations (NZFVWO) identifies and focuses on issues that are important to the sector and does something about them. We promote a number of ICT initiatives in the sector - and are keen to facilitate awareness about and access to ICT tools to the benefit of all sector groups. We congratulate and fully support the e-Engage Your Community initiative in bringing to community and voluntary organisations a great local learning experience.
New Zealand Council Of Social Services
New Zealand Council Of Social Services is a national office
for social service and Not-for-Profit organisations based
regionally around the country. The role of NZCOSS includes
capacity building and support for these thousands of
organisations. To enable and assist these grass-roots organisations to become
more knowledgeable and able to use ICT tools is of great value.
It is with pleasure that NZCOSS supports and joins with the
e-Engage Your Community to provide the opportunity for all to
increase their knowledge in this important and strategic area of
knowledge.
